Program Description
This four-hour workshop provides a well-rounded overview of snow and ice control for those staff behind the wheel during snow operations. Participants receive a certificate of completion following the program. The program concentrates on the following areas, from an operator’s perspective:

After completing this course, participants will be better able to:
Discuss the basics of winter operations and apply essential winter operations for operators.
Identify common winter materials and how they work.
Explain the different winter equipment available and its upkeep and determine the benefits of enhanced communication between fleet personnel and operators.

Materials (75 minutes)
Discuss why chemicals are used
Identify factors to be considered in selecting materials
Explain the benefits and shortcomings of using liquids
Discuss industry best practices for salt and liquid application
Fleet and Equipment (75 minutes)
Apply procedures for pre- and post-trip inspections and tools to help complete the process.
Evaluate equipment purchase decisions and fitting agency needs.
Explain how to properly calibrate snow and ice equipment.
Explain the importance of proper maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of equipment.
Discuss present and future equipment options to consider.
Snow and Ice Control Operations (90 minutes)
Discuss Snow Policies and level of service.
Differentiate between plowing techniques.
Identify methods for training the new operator.
Apply essential concepts of communicating and documenting your operations.
Discuss technology that impacts operations.
